Who We Are

Philippa Klein PSW/MSW was inspired to launch Fuzzy Consult through her many interactions in private practice with clients from the world of tech and digital media. She began to see a recurrent theme of workplace burnout, fragile team cohesion and an increasing sense of frustration by creative workforce members with their work environments. The pandemic has only exacerbated these issues and combined with the current labour shortages, enterprises are beginning to feel the pain of an unstable workforce.

Working through  the organizational and emotional challenges these clients  regularly encounter lead her to formulate a management intervention strategy that can directly lead to a reduction of anxiety and burnout and an improvement in the productivity and creativity for these workforces. She came to understand with certainty that a mentally unwell staff leads to an unwell work environment.

Philippa Klein has over 25 years experience as an entrepreneur and consultant, and a decade of experience in mental health intervention and group counselling. She helped launch multiple successful businesses in the music industry including the North American offices of Ninja Tune records and one of the most respected independent music publishing houses in Canada ,Third SIde Music. She was also the founder of the integrative health centre , The Open Centre/Centre Ouvert located in Montreal which housed over 30 professionals in the health and wellbeing sector, where she also launched the Fuzzy Talk series of workshops with co-presenter Dr. Marcel Parent. She has worked facilitating coping seminars for cancer patients through Hope and Cope, and she has also done one on one consulting work for various businesses in the entertainment industry. It is this cross section of experience that inspired the understanding that there is a better way to support, inspire and manage teams in these highly creative industries than the traditional performance review, bonus, carrot and stick approaches currently in place.

The Fuzzy Approach  is one that is grounded in  evidence-based psychological practices which help managers learn how to connect with their teams as both a cohesive group, but also one that is made up of a multiple variable of individual persons. Understanding that anxiety is a physiological experience that directly reduces an employees capacity to think creatively is key. If a project lead or manager can be trained in the art of anxiety reduction and effective communication techniques, and also comes to understand their own “emotional” component to their management style, they can begin to feel more effective to deal with acute management issues. This will allow them to  instill a secured work environment for their teams which  promotes longevity and workplace satisfaction. Emotionality  is  the major impactor on productivity and sustainability and therefore the management of this is at the foundation of the Fuzzy  Approach.
